Protection of the borders has become more important to many people since the 9-11 attacks, based on the view that terrorists could cross the borders and wreak havoc. The terrorists involved in the 9-11 attacks entered the country legally and then failed to go home as they were supposed to do, but none simply crossed the borders illegally. Still, the perception grew quickly that protecting the borders was necessary to protect us from terrorism."
