While that movement was the center of media attention for many years, it was not the first "human rights movement" that women had been involved with in modern history. The African American Freedom Movement, also referred to as the Black Freedom Movement was a movement that women joined years before the women's movement ever evolved in recent history. The Black Freedom Movement was a movement based in African American desire to be afforded the most basic of civil rights, which for many years they had been denied."
