From the Paper:
"The consumer has one view of quality, and whiles the Wall Street Journal article points out that J.D. Power does an initial quality survey to see how cars perform in the first 90 days of ownership, the fact is that this initial measure of the perception of quality does not always predict the longevity of the vehicle. The point is made in the Journal article that while the 1997 Isuzu Rodeo Trooper came in with initial lackluster initial quality ratings but later proved to the be second most-reliable SUV in its class. Simply put, J.D. Power & Associates measures the perception of initial quality of automobiles during the first 90 days of ownership - and it must be stressed that while the research methodology asks new car buyers for all the car's best and worst features including those items that malfunction, it is clear that their approach doesn't capture all aspects of quality."
