Paper Summary:
The paper looks at Victor Hanson's book entitled 'Mexifornia: A State of Becoming." The paper analyses the ideas in the book, and concludes that in the arenas of morality Hanson writes clearly and correctly.
However, in other theories, such as assimilation or integration, Hanson writes without use of specifics, and is thus contradictory and false in his data.
From the Paper:
Victor Davis Hanson's latest book, Mexifornia: A State of Becoming, was released by Encounter Books in 2003. The work questions the current existence of the state of California as the influx of illegal immigrants from Mexico continues, hence the prevalence of the terms "Mexifornia", "Calexico" and "El Norte." While Hanson makes significant points regarding the morality factors of illegal immigration, the rest of his work is too hypothetical and contradictory to be taken seriously into account. The work is not supported by intensive statistics or empirical data, which perhaps is intended to aim Mexifornia at a wider audience. Indeed, Hanson himself notes that: "this is not an academic study with the usual extensive documentation" (Hanson 9). However, from this point on, some visible extortions are conveyed by the overstated embellishes of his writing. He construes that, if America is not watchful, other states will become "Mexisota" or "Mexichusetts"."
