Osteoporosis causes over 1.5 million fractures a year and is responsible for billions of dollars in healthcare costs. The U.S. Surgeon General reported that calcium, vitamin D supplementation and physical activity are among the first steps in fracture prevention from osteoporosis. Pharmacotherapy has also been shown to provide substantial reduction in fracture risk over only a treatment program of calcium and vitamin D supplementation."
