This paper explains that, despite the devastation from World War II, having emerged from the war economically and politically stronger, the U.S.S.R. enlarged the Communist territory by imposing its political approach on other Eastern Europe countries. The author points out that the combination of the dissidence from countries, which did not want to be controlled by the USSR, economic and political decline thus decreasing support in Communism, and the rise in efforts of reform within Russia led to the USSR's eventual demise. The paper relates that, under the People's Commune system, the entire Chinese economy was reorganized, and the cultural identification of the Chinese people was transformed to prevent the establishment of a rigid class system within the Party and government.

"Stalin died in 1953, and four years later Nikita Kruchev assumed the leadership role. Emphasis shifted from heavy industry to consumer goods manufacturing. External trade was expanding. In 1950, the index for imports was 54.6, and for exports 56.7. By 1958, these were at 148.4 and 130.0. Agriculture was extended into the eastern dry lands as the Soviet Union attempted to develop into a large scale, mechanized farming state. The USSR also launched Sputnik, the world's first earth satellite and led the world space war. It appeared that Russia was headed where the leaders had hoped. This was short-lived."
